Extra Extra Read All About It: Second Grade News!!
Math
This month students will continue to work on their conceptual understanding of addition & subtraction. They will be using addition and subtraction within 100 to solve one and two step word problems. They will combine 1’s, 10’s and 100’s and use addition with a number line and expanding addition. Students will use the totals method to solve addition problems. Students will learn strategies that build fluency in learning addition and subtraction and understand that they are inverse operations. Third Grade – Students will continue with their unit on multiplication and division. They will continue to learn different properties and strategies to help them multiply and divide as they solve math problems. Thank you for your help and support in guiding the students in memorizing their multiplication facts English Language Arts During our literature block we will continue to work with reading groups. The focus will be on developing expertise in Science/Social Studies:
In writing, students will be writing informative & exploratory texts in which they introduce a topic, use facts and definitions to develop points and provide a concluding statement. It is recommended that your child read for at least 20 minutes every night. Students will need 5 AR points per quarter. |
Social Studies/Science
We will finish our study on History and Culture in the classroom. Mrs. Ammons will work with them on learning about various holidays around the world. Solids & Liquids will be the focus in Science. Students will understand the structure and properties of matter before and after they undergo a change. Many performance tasks will be conducted by the students to enhance and help guide their learning experience. They will investigate and explore the basic properties of solids and liquids.
